The Dance Company Performance Group provides an opportunity for serious dance students to develop technique and skill at a higher level of professionalism. The chance to perform and compete throughout the year provides students with valuable training including the opportunity to enhance their abilities in improvisation, stage presence, and adaptation. Students also build strong friendships and create lasting memories with fellow dancers.
Requirements
There are nine levels of Performance Group: Pre-Mini, Prep Team Mini C, Mini B, Mini A, Intermediate Mini, Advanced Mini, Junior, and Senior.
All teams are filled by invitation only. Invitations are based on teacher discretion. Individual tryouts will be scheduled for students entering from other studios.
To be invited onto a Performance Group, dancers must have consistently demonstrated a desire and ability to learn and memorize combinations, apply corrections, and follow classroom etiquette (including arriving on time and following dress codes). Dancers must also have good coordination, flexibility, strength, and effort.
Each level has its own additional requirements:
Pre-Mini: Dancer must be at least 6-years-old and invited into the program. Some experience is necessary.
Prep Team: Dancer must be at least 8-years-old and invited into the program or to move up from another level. Experience is ballet, tap, and jazz are necessary.
Mini C: Dancer must be at least 6-years-old and invited into the program or to move up from another level. Some experience is necessary.
Mini B: Dancer must be at least 6-years-old and invited into the program or to move up from another level. Some experience is necessary.
Mini A: Dancer must be at least 6-years-old and invited into the program or to move up from another level. Some experience is necessary.
Intermediate Mini: Dancer must be at least 8-years-old and invited into the program or to move up from another level. Experience and proficiency in ballet, tap, and jazz are necessary.
Advanced Mini: Dancer must be at least 10-years-old and invited into the program or to move up from another level. Experience and advanced proficiency in ballet, tap, and jazz is necessary.
Junior and Senior: Dancer must be invited into the program or to move up from another level. Extensive experience and advanced proficiency in ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop are necessary.
Classes
During the fall, each group is required to take certain classes each week.
Pre-Mini takes a 1-hour class
Prep Team takes a 2-hour class (including ballet)
Mini C takes a 1-hour class
Mini B takes a 1.25-hour class
Mini A takes a 2-hour class
Intermediate Mini takes a 2-hour class
Advanced Mini takes a 2.5-hour class (including tap) and are suggested to take an additional ballet or hip hop class. Students planning to continue onto the Junior level are encouraged to take additional classes.
Junior takes Lyrical 4, Jazz 4, Tap 4, and Junior PG, Classical Ballet/Pointe, and Hip Hop
Senior takes Jazz 5, Jazz 5, Tap 5, and Senior PG, Classical Ballet/Pointe, and Hip Hop
During the summer, Pre-Mini, Prep Team, Mini C, Mini B, Mini A, Intermediate Mini, and Advanced Mini take 1.5 hours of class for 7 weeks. Junior and Senior take 4 hours of class for 7 weeks.
Attendance
Students are allowed 4 excused absences during the 35-week season. Additional absences must be discussed with the teacher and may result in dismissal from the program. STUDENTS MUST ATTEND ALL EXTRA REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES.
Transportation
Transportation to and from classes, rehearsals, performances, and competitions is the parents’ responsibility.
Dress Code
All dancers must come prepared to PG classes with the following:
Black leotard
Black shorts (optional)
Black skirt (optional)
Carmel or pink tights
Tan jazz shoes
Tan tap shoes
Pink ballet shoes
Hair pulled back in a bun
Please talk with your teacher if you have any dress code questions. Teachers may have additional dress code requirements.
Dismissal
Dismissal from the program may occur for the following reasons:
Attendance from previous or current year is poor
Student is not progressing with their group because of poor attendance
Student’s tuition, costume fees, competition fees, etc. are not kept current
Student attends any other studio
Competitions
Each year Pre-Mini and Mini C attend one competition; Prep Team, Mini B, Mini A, Intermediate Mini, Advanced Mini, Junior, and Senior attend two competitions. Competitions are mandatory. All fees and travel arrangements are the responsibility of the parents. Competition fees are due in January and are non-refundable.
Recitals
One parent of each Performance Group (excluding Pre-Mini) family is required to volunteer at one recital. Please report to your Performance Group Mom for your specific assignments.
Prep Team parents work the basement and cafeteria for Show A, B, or C

Intermediate parents work tickets/programs at door and ticket booth for Show B
Advanced Mini parents work backstage and troubleshoots for Show A, B, or C
Junior parents work tickets/programs at door and ticket booth for Show C
Senior parents work tickets/programs at door and ticket booth for Show A
Schedule of Payments
Registration fee and first month’s tuition are due at time of registration. Registration fee and first month’s tuition are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Solo private tuition is due Sept. 1
Costume deposits are due Nov. 1 – $30 per costume
Competition fees are due Jan. 1 (remember, many of you attend 2 competitions)
Costume balances are due Feb. 1 (If necessary, call Miss Dina for payment arrangements of these balances)
*No bills will be sent unless a payment is late
Media Release
By virtue of entering The Dance Company Performance Group, participants give their permission and consent to the owners and directors of The Dance Company to use their images in photographs, videos, television, or any other electronic media for advertising, news coverage, or any other commercial use.
The Dance Company has the right to make any changes to these rules that they deem necessary.
